OCR CLAiT
Level 1
The OCR Level 1 Certificate/Diploma for IT Users (New CLAiT)
is a qualification designed to recognise the skills, knowledge and
understanding of IT users everywhere, whether in employment, education or
training. Courses leading to a
New CLAiT qualification will equip learners with the basic range of
transferable skills necessary to meet the demands of the modern workplace,
and will prepare learners for progression to further training and
accreditation in IT User skills at Level 2 and Level 3.
New CLAiT has been redeveloped to produce a qualification
that provides a far clearer progression route to Level 2 at both unit level
and whole qualification level. The new qualification aims to reflect and
build on the strengths of the previous version, incorporating revised
content, which now maps, where appropriate, to 100% of the National
Occupational Standards. This takes account of recent software developments
and provides greater flexibility, ease-of-use and relevance.
Over 2 million people in the
UK now hold CLAiT certificates, making
CLAiT the benchmark qualification in IT.

In
order to achieve a certificate qualification, candidates are required to
achieve three units, the core unit plus two additional optional units. The
core unit has been designed to accredit a candidate's initial skills in
operating the hardware and software components of a typical computer
workstation. The optional units
allow candidates to develop skills in a range of different IT applications.
Each unit is regarded as a worthwhile
achievement in its own right. Candidates have the option of achieving as
many or as few units as are appropriate for their own learning needs or
employment situation.

CLAiT Level 2
The
CLAiT Level 2 qualification is designed for those with some experience
wishing to increase their IT productivity. It allows you to increase your
efficiency and improve your computer capabilities.
It has been developed in
consultation with partners in the IT industry, with assistance from further
education and schools. The core
unit has been designed to encompass the essential core knowledge and
competencies that are needed in the workplace to complete both routine and
non-routine tasks. The optional units allow you to develop skills in a range
of different IT applications.
CLAiT can be studied in a variety of ways:
|
·
|
It can be taken in bite-size pieces with each unit attracting an
independent certificate |
|
·
|
It can be taken as a personalised group of units – for example, to
address the needs of somebody setting up their own business; or for
someone who is keen to develop their

|
·
|
It can be taken as a full award.
|
To
achieve the overall Level 2 Certificate candidates must complete four units,

Basic Skills (Maths & English)
Launched in September 2001, the National Tests for Adult Literacy and
Numeracy are directly based on the national standards for adult literacy and
numeracy, allowing learners, tutors and employers to have a clear
understanding of what has been achieved and value the resulting
qualifications.
The OCR Certificate in Literacy & Numeracy (available at levels 1 and 2) is
a nationally recognised qualification for basic skills at levels 1 and 2 of
the National Qualifications Framework.
To gain certification at levels 1 and 2 candidates must pass an external
test. These are multiple choice tests that are externally set by QCA and
marked by OCR. There is no requirement to produce a portfolio of evidence.
Abal Computer Training Services Ltd can provide all the necessary learning
leading to the Adult Numeracy & Literacy qualification.
